Lex Frieden

Lex Frieden is Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, and he is Adjunct Professor of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at Baylor College of Medicine.  Frieden also directs the ILRU – Independent Living Research Utilization Program at TIRR Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas.

 

From 1984 to 1988, Mr. Frieden served as Executive Director of the National Council on the Handicapped (now the National Council on Disability).  In this capacity, he was instrumental in conceiving and drafting the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).

Jim Harrington

Texas Civil Rights Project Director and Attorney

Jim Harrington, a human rights attorney with nearly four decades of experience, is founder and director of the Texas Civil Rights Project. He graduated from the School of Law at the University of Detroit, from where he also holds a Masters in philosophy. He has taught at the University of Texas School of Law as an adjunct professor for twenty-six years. Harrington has handled landmark civil rights cases, written and published widely, and served on human rights delegations in different areas of the world.

 

Additionally, Harrington helped direct the Americans with Disabilities Act National Backup Center for two years, and traveled to more than twenty states and U.S. territories organizing ADA litigation and enforcement campaigns like those he organized in Texas.
